What is a Sarau?

 Every last Saturday of the month, we have a Backpacker´s encounter, a big event, in other words- a Sarau!

What is a sarau? It is a party, but it is also more than just a party. Of course, your friends are there along with other cool backpackers from all over the world, and São Paulo natives who love music and fun. There are drinks and delicious churrasco to be had. What makes this amazing party a Sarau, however, is the culture and the music that everyone shares.

 Be it pop music or ancient poetry, the microphone is open to everyone´s contribution. Some stand up comedians tell jokes! A backpacker might tell a story of his adventure hitchhiking through Latin America. The kids play their favorite song on the guitar. Everyone is welcome!





At a party, you have fun, but at a Sarau, you have fun and share a piece of your life with everyone there. Through the act of creating some art, music, or poetry, each person becomes a part of the Mooca Hostel family.
